1. What do you miss most about being a kid? Just how simple life was, the biggest decision in your day was what toy to play with, what friend did you want to have over to play.

2. Did you have a nickname growing up? What was it? My friends called me Britt but my little sister could not say Brittany when she started to talk so she called me Bicky and that stuck for a very long time to this day really for some people.

3. What was your favorite thing to do at recess? Sitting around chatting with my friends is what I remember doing, or playing on the playground.

4. What did you want to be when you grew up? For awhile I wanted to be Connie Chung and then I just wanted to be a novelist/journalist

5. What was your favorite toy? Barbies!! I loved Barbies and my Nanny got me a new one every time she went to the mall. I honestly had over 100 Barbies!

6. What is the funniest thing you did as a kid, that your parents still remind you about? Lots of things! When I would sing Every time you go away....I would sing Every time you go away you take a piece of meat with you instead of Me haha

I know I'm late with this but I wanted to give props to the ladies I loved at the Emmys! I only have two because I don't feel like looking up more pictures and these two are my favorites so what more do you need really! My top choice is the lovely Julie Bowen.

I loved this dress! I adore the color I may or may not have a dress in the color myself! I think it fit her well and she looked really great!

Second Top Choice is Claire Danes!

Loved the color and shape on her! She didn't want to show off the baby bump too much so I think she choice great dress. Not too much and not too little. I really liked it!

And my least favorite was Lucy Lui

Just awful I'm sorry it just looks heavy and bad!

Tunes Tuesday!

Martina Sorbara is in the spotlight this week! She is now the lead singer of Dragonette but I started listening to her awhile back when I was university because my roommate went to the same high school as her! (Shout out to Lynn). Martina's album The Cure for Bad Deeds is still to this day one of my favorite albums. I honestly love every song on the album and some of the songs I feel like Martina wrote them from what I was feeling. She is brilliant and I think everyone should check her out especially her older stuff before Dragonette.

Fall Soup: Tomato Basil Parmesan

17 September 2012 No comments
On Wednesday I decided to try another slow cooker soup and this time it was a Tomato basil parmesan soup. Let me tell you this soup does not disappoint in any way! And since it is basically done in a slower cooker how could this not be easy! And how good does this soup look!?

The night before I chopped the carrots and celery and got everything I needed together so the next morning I did not have much prep to do to get the soup in the slow cooker and it makes the house smell amazing for the day! The most work you have to do with this soup is make a roux and honestly that is super easy! We all know I hate it when this are hard in the kitchen! The only thing I suggest when doing this recipe is putting in your blender or using a hand blender to make it a nice creamy smooth soup and I only used one cup of cream and I used light cream. I know I made this but I have to say it is probably the best soup I have ever tasted. My cousin even suggested if you had leftover soup you could even use it has a sub for pasta sauce! Everyone who had some loved this soup! I was basically forcing it on people I even took some over to my friend when I was visiting her last week because I know she loves soup and would love this one!

If you're looking for a good fall soup this is for you! I promise you will love it!

Pesto Pasta!

16 September 2012 No comments
Last week I dove into cooking for a few days because well I really felt like cooking so why not!? I'm going to start with the pasta for Tuesday's dinner. It was a roasted red pepper and basil pesto penne.

Doesn't it look delish!?

I actually was hoping for a better pasta but this is because I don't like pesto! Yes I know you're thinking why did you make a pesto dish when you don't like it Brittany? Answer I was making sure I didn't like pesto because I haven't had it for a long time! And I was hoping the roasted tomatoes would take away from some of the pesto taste. It doesn't! I liked it okay but I would not make again since I didn't really like it but everyone else did! Mom and Erica really liked it because they loved pesto and Dad liked it too which was great since it would have been a downer if no one liked it! I'm okay when it is just me who doesn't like something I make (yes I have done this more than once). This is an easy pasta to make, I roasted my own red peppers for this recipe because I couldn't find any jarred tomatoes and it was really easy. Just set your oven on broil, line a baking pan with foil, cut peppers in half and put them in the oven until the skins are blistered and blackened, the skins will come right off for you! You do have to make your pesto but again it is really easy so don't feel like you can't make this dish because of that, you have a food processor you can do this! Quick meal even if you have to start it after work! If you like pesto this is a dish you should make :)

Sunday Social!

Yes, it is another Sunday so that means another great link up with Neely and Ashley!

1. What are the 3 items you can't live without on a daily basis? (water, shelter, food and clothing don't count)

-my iPhone for sure! I would probably lose my mind without it, my planner I need to write things down! and probably my debit card! ;)

2. What is your favorite book of all time? Why?

-The Diary of Anne Frank because I'm a WWII buff and I'm just in awe of this sweet little girl living through since an awful time in history.

3. What is something you would like to accomplish before the end of 2012?

-I would really like to sell a few of my craft projects and finally finish the last Hunger Games book!

4. If you could go back and relive any year of your life which year would it be?

-That is a good question, I think it would be last year because I had a great year of travel, family and friends. My friends getting married in Mexico, Toronto trip with my girls and Boston with my brother and sister. Yes I loved last year 2011!

5. What do you wish people knew about you without having to tell them?

- Sorry I have nothing for this one! I'm sure there is something but I can't think of it right now!

Next couple of blogs are probably going to be food related because I cooked a lot last week :)

September 11th, Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?

11 September 2012 No comments

Where were you when the world stopped turning
that September day,
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Or workin' on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock
At the sight of that black smoke risin' against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger and fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry

Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
Pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below
Did you burst out in pride for the red white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin' what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
I know Jesus and I talk to god
And i remember this from when i was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning
that September day
Teachin' a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset for the first time in ages
Speak to some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out an buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on 'I Love Lucy' re-runs
Did you go to church and hold hands with some strangers
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank god you had somebody to love

And the greatest is love

Yummy Yummy I Got Love In my Tummy!

10 September 2012 No comments
I finally found my camera again so I'm finally able to show you the amazing homemade pretzel bites I made! I made other pretzel bites back in February for Superbowl but I have to say these are easier and tastier! Of course I found the recipe on Pinterest because where else do you find such awesome recipes!

I again had a minor panic attack because of the use of yeast but it was fine once again and I shouldn't have worried in the first place. Other than having to wait for an hour so the dough can raise it isn't a long process to make these pretzel bites. Fresh out of the oven with some pizza sauce is how we had them and boy were they delish! I will be making them again for sure!!

Getting to know you....

09 September 2012 No comments
It is once again time for Sunday Social! This week Neely and Ashley have a set of questions about getting to know your blog better! So lets go....

What is your blog name and how did you come up with it? As you can see my blog name is A Coffee Break with Brittany and I came up with it because I was actually have a coffee break when I was trying to figure out my blog name and it is came together for me.

What do you love most about blogging? I love the friends that you make with blogging and just being able to say whatever you need to say and know you're gonna get support when you need it, a kick in the pants when you need it etc. Bloggers friends are awesome.

What are two favorite posts you have written? I have to say I don't know with this one. I love all my baking/cooking posts because those are the ones I'm most proud because of what I had accomplished in the kitchen.

What is something you would want to tell someone just starting out in the blog world? Just keep doing your thing! Post what you want post and don't let anyone else change you because you think you should doing something else on your blog because everyone else is doing it. If you want moan and complain do it! If you want to just post pictures do it! It is your blog!

Biggest blogging learning experience you've had? I think it would be figuring out what I wanted my blog to be. I wanted something fun and easy not something that felt like work because I have done that before and my blog lasted maybe a week and I didn't want that to happen again!

Three Blog that we need to follow that you love!

I wore yoga pants

Oh My Owls!

Thanks for visiting! xo

Friday's Letters

07 September 2012 No comments
Another Friday another link up! I'm linking up with Ashley over at Adventures of Newlyweds for Friday's Letters.

Dear Pinterest, What did I do with myself before you came along? I owe most of my craftiness, baking and cooking skills to Pinterest (the rest is probably due to my mother being Martha Stewart minus the jail time). Also, thank you for giving me so many idea for Christmas crafts but can you give me a bigger house so I have a place for all the stuff for the crafts and then places to put all of them?

Dear Truro, You need more things to do in your town. I only come to visit your scrapbooking store. I was there today and wished we could have done something but we couldn't figure out something to do.

Dear Fall Weather, I'm oddly happy you're here. I'm sad summer is basically over but I'm liking being able to wrap up in my blankets at night and not sweat to death and I love that I'm able to wear my new sweater!

Dear Woman who was Singing Alone with her music while walking in Truro, Thank you for making my day! I hope you were actually enjoying your tunes as much as you seemed to be!

Thanks for stopping in! More to come this weekend and fingers crossed I find my camera!

Hey Everyone it is Tuesday again so that means some tunes are in the cards for today! I'm not introducing you a new artist this week mainly because I don't have anymore to give but because of the fact that one of my favorite musician put out a new album last week! Alanis Morisette FINALLY released a new album and I'm so pumped about it! I have loved her for year and she just makes some of the best music around! Woman Down and Numb are probably my favorite songs so far from the album but of course I love all of them! I hope you check out her new album because I don't think you will be disappointed!

Chocolate Zucchini Cake

01 September 2012 2 comments
Happy September Everyone! Today really felt like fall! Crisp air and a sunny sky is how I love my fall days and this was one. I still feel sad that it means summer is coming to an end but I guess that is how the seasons work.

Anyways today when I was out at the Farmer's Market (one of the best things about this time of year the produce!) I picked up some zucchinis because I saw a chocolate zucchini loaf on one of my favorite blogs (A Pretty Life in the Suburbs) and her recipes always turn out great and it just looked too good not to try it! This is another really easy recipe because we all know how much this girl loves her easy recipes! A few ingredients but really nothing you won't already have in your kitchen well expect for the zucchini unless you have been to the Farmer's Market already :) Prep time not long and then cook time is 50-60 minutes but really clean up will take you half that time! Then you have to wait and just smell the yummy loaf baking! This loaf is moist and just so delicious! You have to stop yourself from having too much! This is how mine turned out

I'm thinking about trying the original zucchini loaf next week because this one turned out so good! Loved it as did the rest of the family :)

See you tomorrow for Sunday Social!

xoxo
