Friday Favorites!

12 October 2018 1 comment
Happy Friday everyone! Here we are at the end of another week and we made it through with flying colors! I swear the older I get the quicker time passes though. This week was a short one anyways because of the Thanksgiving Holiday. How was your week? Quick or Slow?

Again this week I'm linking up with the girls for Friday Favorites. For this week I did have more favorites then the past few weeks so lets get on it...

On Wednesday evening I headed over to the final debate for our leadership race for the PC Party of Nova Scotia. This is the one I really wanted to go to since it was the last one and the closest to home for me. Since it is coming down to the final weeks of a very long (too long to be honest) race for leader things have gotten somewhat nasty. I will not lie, I'm profoundly disappointed by one of the candidates who I know is a truly good man, but lets not get into that because we are here for my favorites of the week. The candidate I'm supporting Tim Houston, has anyways made me proud, I have watched him grow since coming onto the scene as MLA for Pictou East in 2013. Wednesday night at the debate I watched him take on petty/nasty bull (for lack of a better word), with the grace I want in my leader. My heart swelled with pride for him, happy knowing I call him a friend. Now, I'm even more excited for the leadership convention, even though I have already mailed in my ballot. Win, lose or draw he has done an amazing job and will continue to do great things.

Another one of my favorites which has been basically on repeat since it came it has been the Carrie Underwood album Cry Pretty. I love Carrie and this album is another great one. I actually love all the songs which is not always the norm for me because normally there is always one or two that I will skip over, not so with album. I think my top three songs from the album are Love Wins...because it just seems like something we all need to hear right now with all the issues going on around the world and how really we all just need to love each other and figure things out....Champion because it is just an awesome song, great to have on the work out playlist by the way....Ghosts on the Stereo, again just another great song. If you like Carrie and you haven't checked out this album yet I strongly suggest you go and listen to it soon!

I started a new book on Monday, The Tattooist for Auschwitz by Heather Morris and it is so good so far. Here is the about section from Chapters on it to give you the idea of what is it about...

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on the true story of Lale and Gita Sokolov, two Slovakian Jews, who survived Auschwitz and eventually made their home in Australia. In that terrible place, Lale was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival—literally scratching numbers into his fellow victims’ arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust. Lale used the infinitesimal freedom of movement that this position awarded him to exchange jewels and money taken from murdered Jews for food to keep others alive. If he had been caught he would have been killed; many owed him their survival.

There have been many books about the Holocaust—and there will be many more. What makes this one so memorable is Lale Sokolov’s incredible zest for life. He understood exactly what was in store for him and his fellow prisoners and he was determined to survive—not just to survive, but to leave the camp with his dignity and integrity intact, to live his life to the full. Terrible though this story is, it is also a story of hope and of courage. It is also—almost unbelievably—a love story. Waiting in line to be tattooed, terrified and shaking, was a young girl. For Lale—a dandy, a jack-the-lad, a bit of a chancer—it was love at first sight and he determined not only to survive himself, but to ensure that Gita did, too. His story—their story—will make you weep, but you will also find it uplifting. It shows the very best of humanity in the very worst of circumstances.

Like many survivors, Lale and Gita told few people their story after the war. They eventually made their way to Australia, where they raised a son and had a successful life. But when Gita died, Lale felt he could no longer carry the burden of their past alone. He chose to tell his story.

These stories of survivors of the Holocaust are some of my favorite stories to read because I can't imagine how they survived and the devastation they lived though. I haven't gotten too far into yet but I know already that it is going to be a great read that is for sure.

Alright, that is all from me this week. I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will be back on Monday with something great for you to read (fingers crossed). Happy Weekending!

Friday Favourites! Thanksgiving Edition (kinda)

05 October 2018 No comments
Another week is done! Well, almost done but man this week flew by for me! I think it is because it was quite broken up with appointments and such I had this week. I do believe I'm almost done of everything from my trauma this summer. On Tuesday I had to go for an echo cardiogram and CT scan. I had the echo at 9:30am and by 11:15am the doctor called to tell me everything was perfect and I didn't have to come and see him for any follow up, YAY! And, the CT I'm sure was fine too since the one I had about a month ago was good. Love that my doctors are taking good take of me but I would love a break from them for a bit!

So, since we are back to Friday, it is time for Friday Favorites! When I was trying to figure out what my Friday Favorites would be I was having a great time because I didn't have a bunch of things jumping out as favorites from this past week since it was hospital/doctor appointments and work. Then I realized my most favorite part of the week was seeing my surgeon Dr. Hoogerboord. Yes, it was another doctor appointments that I might be sick of going to but it is always nice to have another doctor say how things are just coming along nicely. When I saw Hoogerboord for the first time, I was not at my best and even the next day when I saw him I was doped up on pain killers so it was great to finally see him at my post op appointment and actually get to thank him for saving me. For the first 24 hours I was in the hospital in Halifax, it was just a chaotic mess in the best way if that makes sense. They were doing what they could in trying to find out was wrong but no one was making the decision of what they needed to do to make me better. If one more doctor had of come in and said well we might try and drain it but you might need surgery I was going to scream. During, my appointment with Hoogerboord, he said draining it was never an option for him because it wouldn't have fixed anything I would still have been in and out of the hospital with extremely high fevers which just isn't a good thing. Also, when he got in there it has ruptured, so there would have been no way to drain it. The calm that Dr. Hoogerboord bought to my situation was amazing. When he walked into the room and had made the decisions that needed to be made, it was one of the best feelings I had ever had even though I was still scared, I just knew he had everything under control and I was going to be fine. Now, I am fine.

Since I have gotten out of the hospital and recovered I have researched Dr. Hoogerboord and the man has like 24 letters after his name! He almost has his own alphabet! Not, only is he an accomplished doctor, he is a sweetheart. He doesn't rush with his appointment, he listens, he talks to you like a human being and not a patient. Sometimes he is to the point with no bull but that is what I wanted. His bedside manner is wonderful. When a doctor can look someone in the eye and tell them things are going to be okay and you truly believe them it is a feeling that you can't really compare to anything else. I do not think my mother could have thanked him enough. I swear she was making him blush. But, lets move on and in the spirit of the upcoming holiday of Thanksgiving, I'm more then thankful for Dr. Marius Hoogerboord.

So, even though I'm sure he will never see this post I just wanted to talk about one of my favorite people.

Happy Friday Everyone! I hope you all have a great weekend and to my fellow Canadians Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

Beauty Wednesday! Drugstore Make Up Edition!

25 September 2013 3 comments
Happy Wednesday My Beauties! I hope you're all have a great week! This week I'm continuing with my beauty Wednesday series. This week we are talking about drug store make up! We all know sometimes the drugstore brands are just as good as the high end brands. Heck they are sometimes made by the same companies! So here are some of my favorite make up products!

Face Products:
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation and Concealer: I got these products on the recommendation from Tanya Burr and Zoella. These two are two of my favorite beauty gurus and they rave about these so I decided to pick them but and I love them! They go on smooth, have good coverage and don't feel cakey! What more could you ask for!?

Maybelline Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealer: I use this for under my eyes because it gives a nice highlight and nice under eye coverage.

Revlon Photo Ready Pressed Powder: This is my favorite powder because it gives a matte finish without being overly matte. I know I that sounds weird but I know some of you will get it!

Rimmel Bronzer: I honestly cannot tell you how many times I have repurchased this bronzer! I think I have been wearing it for over 10 years! I love the color pay off and how it isn't too shimmery! Because the older you get the less shimmery you should be.

Maybelline Great Last Clear Mascara: I use this for keeping my eye brows in place! I fill in my eye brows a bit and add this so they look good all day.

Maybelline Falsies Mascara: This was also bought because of Tanya Burr and I have to say I love it! Makes my lashes look great! I have long lashes anyways but this mascara makes them look even longer and fuller!

Almay Eyeshadows: I love the pre-packed trios that give you the look without having to think about it! Sometimes you want to play with your make up but sometimes you don't. You just want to slap it on and go! This makes that so easy! Good color pay off and gives a nice application!

Maybelline Color Whispers: Probably my favorite new product from the spring/summer. I love how you can go from a sheer color to buildable deeper shade. They go on smooth and don't dry out your lips.
Rimmel Kate Lipsticks: Great colors! I have 102 and 107. The darker red one I got because of Zoella and this is such a great shade I think everyone should go and check it out in store! These are rich and creamy. Goes on smooth and doesn't dry out your lips too bad especially if you put some lip balm on under them.
Eos Lip Balm: just a great balm, perfect for under lipsticks and just by itself :)

I hope everyone is enjoying this series! Next week I think we will be talking about face care :)

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Beauty Favorites: Shower Edition! Drugstore Products

18 September 2013 5 comments
Hey Lovelies! Today I have new fun series for you! Well I hope it is fun anyways! I'm going to be showing you what my favorite products are. This week we are starting out with what I love in the shower from the drugstore! And here they are...

There is my shower caddy with all my favorite shower products! Now, lets talk about them!

  • Finesse Shampoo and Conditioner: Yes I love these because my hair pretty much hates expensive shampoo and conditioner. This probably isn't a bad thing because I can buy $2 stuff and it makes my hair look and feel great!
  • Neutrogena Anti Residue Shampoo: I have fine/thin hair so I find that product easily builds up on my hair so once a week I use this shampoo to take all that residue off my hair! I love the smell of this too! So clean!
  • Olay Body Wash: I recently picked this body wash up but I LOVE it mainly because it smells amazing! It also leaves me feeling clean and soft. I smelled the other scents and they are nice too! This is on sale at Walmart right now but I'm not sure for how long. It is $2.79 or something like that.
  • Neutrogena Acne control face wash: I use this with the Olay face scrubber. I might get the Mia someday but for right now I'm good with the one I have. I like this face wash because it is great for controlling any break outs I may have and I don't find it drying!
  • Gillette Venus Razor: It does it job and I like the handle of this razor. Also, I don't have a shaving cream in this photo because lately I have just been using a conditioner I didn't like for my hair!
  • Colgate Optic White Toothpaste: Yup I brush my teeth in the shower! This is just what I have right but I always have Colgate toothpaste
There you have it my shower favorites! What are some of your favorite products? I'm always looking for new things to try so let me know :)

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Current Beauty Favorites!

02 April 2013 4 comments
As you can tell from the title of this blog today we are going to be talking about beauty favorites! Since I love seeing what everyone else is loving I thought maybe you would maybe like what I have been loving! I probably won't be doing one a month of these because I don't normally try out that many new products each month but I will be doing them when I have some stuff I love and think that maybe you will love it too!! Anyways, lets get on with my current beauty favorites!

Firstly we have some face and eye products!

I'm going to start in the middle here with the Boi-ing! by Benefit, this is a concealer and it is amazing! Honestly you can't have something it doesn't hide! It is used to hide tattoos so there you go! This one is almost gone and I got it before Christmas I do believe so it lasts a good long time too! I'm in shade 02. I thought I would be 01 (lightest shade) but the rep from Benefit was at Sephora the day I was there and she helped me out with picking my shade. It covers well, lasts, it is not heavy so I'm totally loving this product and it could be a part of my holy grail products. It is pricey, it is $26 at Shoppers Drug Mart and Sephora. YAY for Shopper carrying Benefit!

Next up we will talk about Maybelline's Dream Lumi Touch, this is a highlighting concealer. It does give some coverage which I like but it does really help brighten dark circles under your eyes and anywhere else you like to face highlight your face (down your nose, cupid bow etc.) It was on sale for $8 (walmart) I think when I picked it up this weekend, it is my second buying it and I'm sure I will buy it again!

Smashbox Bronzer time! This is just a sample size of the Bronze Lights in Suntan Matte from Smashbox, I got it in a Best Of Smashbox set when I cashed in some of my point at Sephora. This is a great bronzer! If you don't like any sparkle in your bronzer this one is for you! I'm more of an all over bronzer girl and don't really contour but I think this would be great for contouring too because as I have mentioned it does not have sparkle to it. Full size of this bronzer is $32.00 at Sephora, so it is on the expensive side but I have had this sample size going on 4 months now and I still have a lot of it! I do go back and forth between this and my MAC bronzer in Golden, but I would say this is a good pick if you're looking for a matte bronzer and want to treat yourself to something a little more high end.

And finally for this picture I have the Max Volume Lash Mascara in extreme black by Rimmel London. This is my new favorite mascara after Diorshow because I don't think I will ever find another mascara I like more than Diorshow! But this is close! The only thing I'm not super amped on about this mascara is that is it really wet! But I love the brush and I love how it goes on and make my lashes look great! Plus it is only like $9! Who doesn't love that!? My lovely Diorshow is more like $25! Hands down though this is my new favorite!

Lip Products! I should not be allowed to even look at lip products because I have so many now but I love them so much and with spring and summer coming they are coming out with so many fun colors and shades it is killing me not to buy everything in sight! These are three of my favorites right now!

We will start with Relvon's Lip Butter in Gumdrop! I really want a lavender lipstick and I figured this would be a good place to start because I knew with the Lip Butter it would not be too much, I have seen a couple at MAC and thought oh I love that but really where am I going to wear such a color! So, this was perfect! It has a little sparkle in it and it goes on like butter! Love it and it is around $7-8 at Walmart.

Onto Maybelline's Color Whispers! These are probably my most favorite products out right now! I love love love love love them! I have already bought 4 I think! This one is Pink Possibilities and it is such a nice pink for spring and summer! I also love that you can have a 'whisper' of color or really build up the color with this lip product. I do believe they are around $7-$8 too at Walmart!

Lastly, we have the Kate Line by Rimmel London! This color is 102 and it is so nice! Perfect pink/coral color for spring. I got it for Easter and I love it! I wore it to family dinner on Sunday. It is smooth, easy application which I love because some lip sticks are just too dry and you feel like you have to apply lip balm/gloss over top of them! These are not like that! Has a nice sheen to it but isn't overly glossy. I have been loving matte lipsticks lately too so this has just a bit more to it then a matter I find. I also think this is like $8 at WalMart.

Here are just some color swatches for you :) 102, Pink Possibilities, Gum Drop

Hope you enjoyed seeing what I'm loving right now! Yes, there is a lot more so maybe I will do another one of these blogs again soon! Hope you all had an amazing weekend and are having a great week! See you again tomorrow!
